We practice rest to restore life with God.

by the Settled Team

Each Sacred Settlement neighbor has four walls, a door that locks, and an intentional community of people who desire to become more authentic and real every new day.

The community itself provides stability to people who have too often experienced instability. Sacred Settlements draw a stark contrast to the systems and culture that surround us.

It begins with rest.

Rest is our intentional response to a world and culture that is too often hurried, busy, and riddled with anxiety. It is a gift from God, an invitation into a healthier understanding of time. Rest is something everyone needs and desires.Recently, our friend Chrissy courageously shared her story with the world. One takeaway from her three years at Sacred Settlement Mosaic: Her community is a place of rest. The world around us is gearing up for a holiday season filled with high expectations to be at events and programs, to fill waking hours with gift-buying and expensive meals, and, yes, even church activities can add to the rush. Would you consider joining our team, our partner churches, and our neighbors at Sacred Settlements to find ways to carve out rest in this season?

Rest as rhythm

God built rest into the pattern of creation — a weekly Sabbath, a daily stillness, a steady rhythm of work and renewal. Rest is important so that we return refreshed and ready to do our work properly and fully.

Try this:

1

Set aside one hour each week for true stillness — no agenda, no phone, no productivity.

2

Before volunteering or working with Settled, take a quiet minute to pray, “God, help me serve from a place of rest, not from rush.”

Rest as belonging

Home is where we can rest in who we are.  For many of our neighbors, true rest begins the moment they have a place to belong — a porch to sit on, a neighbor who listens, a safe night’s sleep.

Try this:

1

Invite a friend, neighbor, or fellow church member to share an unhurried meal together.

2

If you live near a Sacred Settlement, join one of our monthly community meals!

Rest as restoration

When we pause, we make space for healing — in our bodies, relationships, and communities. The same is true for Sacred Settlements. Rest allows trust and friendship to grow.

Try this:

1

Take a walk without your phone and notice what brings you peace.

2

If you volunteer, build margin into your time. Don’t rush off when the task ends — stay a few extra minutes to talk, laugh, or share a story.
