A place to belong: Valerie’s story.

by the Settled Team

There are moments when a safe home makes all the difference—and for Valerie, that moment came at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Months before, the Roseville Police Department guided her to park her bus in the church’s parking lot, offering a temporary haven. But as winter set in, the cold and the uninsulated bus made life increasingly difficult.

With the creation of Sacred Settlement Prince of Peace, Valerie received a new tiny home, parked just steps from supportive neighbors and a furnished Common Home where she can relax, gather, and connect.

Valerie’s journey reflects the long-term struggle many experience. After surviving hurricanes and mudslides, and facing years of homelessness, the physical and emotional toll had been immense. Now, with the care of an intentional community, she has solid ground beneath her feet—both literally and figuratively. This isn’t just shelter—it’s a place where stability, dignity, and community intersect. It’s home.

Pastor Peter Christ and the congregation at Prince of Peace guided this Sacred Settlement from its earliest days. When asked to host Valerie’s bus months earlier, they said yes. And they’ve continued to say yes, embracing each challenge and turning it into an opportunity to support neighbors in need.

Sacred Settlement Prince of Peace demonstrates the power of compassionate, collaborative action. Every tiny house, every intentional neighbor, every shared space contributes to a model that restores hope and builds belonging. For Valerie—and for all those still waiting for a place to call home—this Sacred Settlement is a signal of what’s possible when the community comes together.
